Whitevale Medical Group: Training Future GPs
Whitevale Medical Group is an accredited training practice dedicated to providing high-quality training for future GPs. We support medical students, Foundation Year doctors (FYs), and GP Specialty Trainees (GPSTs).
Undergraduate Training
We are committed to medical education and currently teach 4th and 5th-year medical students from Glasgow University, led by various GPs. Medical students are highly supervised and will observe and then undertake consultations to develop their skills in history taking, examination, and procedural skills.
All undergraduate students understand the importance of patient confidentiality. You will be asked if you are willing to allow students to be present or involved in your consultation when you book your appointment or check in. If you prefer not to have students present, please inform the reception staff.
Postgraduate Training
We are also involved in the training of GP Specialty Trainees (GPSTs), sometimes referred to as GP Registrars. This intensive three-year training program includes various placements within hospitals and general practice.
At Whitevale Medical Group, GPSTs work under the supervision and guidance of qualified GPs, who assist them with any aspect of clinical care as needed. Each GPST has an Educational Supervisor (ES) with additional qualifications in education, responsible for overseeing their training, providing support, and conducting frequent assessments of their progress.
To progress through the training program, GPSTs must demonstrate multiple competencies in various aspects of being a doctor, regularly assessed by their ES. GPSTs may have surgeries where the ES observes the consultations or may ask if the consultation can be recorded on video. These recordings are treated with strict confidentiality and used only for assessment purposes.
Additionally, GPSTs may request that patients complete a Patient Satisfaction Questionnaire (PSQ) to provide feedback on their empathy and relationship-building skills during consultations
